Dublin has twinned cities all over the world. It’s twinned with Liverpool in the UK, Barcelona in Spain, and San Jose in California.

The oldest pub in Ireland is called The Brazen Head and can be found in Dublin. It’s been around since 1198. Have a drink there and see what you think!

You probably know of many of the famous musicians that have hailed from Dublin, including Bono and Sinead O’Connor.

  1. Trinity College in Dublin Has Had Some Famous Students

Trinity college in Dublin has had some legendary graduates. Bram Stoker, who created Dracula was a student here. So was the writer Oscar Wilde.

You probably already know that Guinness comes from Dublin, thanks to the legendary creator Arthur Guinness. You can learn all about it at the dedicated Guinness museum, designed to teach you all about the process in which Guinness is made, and even the proper way to taste it. 10 million pints of this stuff are served all over the world DAILY.

If you like golfing, Dublin is the place to be. There are over 50 courses in the city for you to enjoy.

  1. Dubliners Have Their Own Language

Dubliners have their own language, sometimes referred to as ‘Dublinese’. It’s basically slang words that somebody outside of the country may not understand. They say they’re going ‘on the lash’, when they’re going out drinking for instance. Don’t worry though, you can find accommodation that will speak your language here.

  1. You Won’t Find Any Snakes in Dublin

St. Patrick banished snakes from Ireland, so maybe that’s why you won’t find any in Dublin.

  1. The O’Connell Bridge Was Originally Made from Rope

This bridge was originally made from rope, so as you can imagine it was scary to cross. Only one man and one donkey were allowed at one time. It was replaced with wood in the 1800’s, and was shortly after replaced with concrete. It originally had a different name too; ‘Carlisle Bridge’.

  1. Dublin Was Originally Called Dubh Linn

The name Dubh Linn means ‘Black Pool’. The Black Pool referred to the oldest treacle lake in Northern Ireland. Where will you find that pool? The centre of the penguin enclosure in Dublin Zoo!
