Presidential Playground

You might think a train in the middle of the Arizona desert is a mirage — but, in fact, it’s where you’ll climb aboard to find a true piece of Americana, let alone historic machinery that will keep you and your family entertained for hours. The private Roald Amundsen Pullman Car at Scottsdale’s massive McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, takes you inside the railroad cars where Presidents Hoover, Franklin Roosevelt, and Eisenhower conducted official business on the road. Experience leaning over the brass railing of the rear observation deck and imagine being on the campaign trail — and there’s plenty for the kids, too. Ride an open-air train, take a spin on the antique carousel, climb the spacious playground structures and explore the miniature railroad room. You can even relax (or picnic) on the grass. Fortunately, there are food and snack bars for when you run out of steam.
