Venice on the Pacific

Avalon GrilleMuch like in Venice — Italy, not California — one of the most romantic and delicious restaurants on the West Coast is best accessed by boat. The Avalon Grille comes with a view of the Pacific Ocean upon your request of an outdoor table. The general manager, Ricardo Cubias, is a certified sommelier. He pointed us to a Rusack Syrah from Santa Barbara County to go with a succulent New York Steak, both of which came with a peppery aftertaste. The food is so good, it’s the favored dinner spot of families and singles as well as couples visiting Santa Catalina Island. But the experience is so precious, you’ll want to share it with the right person. Reservations recommended.

423 Crescent Ave., Avalon
