Just 20 minutes from Waikiki, the green, misty area in the middle of town is home to the University of Hawaii. After you pass through the hallowed grounds, hike by trail to Manoa Falls, a shaded, slippery walk moderate enough for everyone. Along the way, encounter a fairytale bamboo forest, flowers so beautiful they seem artificial, and so many mini waterfalls you’ll wonder if you’ve reached your destination. Don’t worry. You’ll know when you’re there because a spectacular waterfall flowing 150 feet down into an idyllic pool is hard to miss. Total time from start to finish is less than two hours. Important: Find the trailhead at the end of Manoa Road where you can park in a small lot for $5, and be sure to spray on bug free repellent, offered to all.
