Even better than a Boston buzz at a good pub, touring Samuel Adams Brewery not only gets you that drink but a behind-the-scenes look as well. The namesake ale from the hero of the American Revolution comes after an arduous process (San Adams claims their brewing time of a year is what Anheuser-Busch concocts in an hour). Also part of the learning process on this hour-long expedition of the century-old brewery: A lesson about Sam Adams’s founder Jim Koch called “the most educated guy in the beer business” with three Harvard degrees and a proper tasting, learning the intricacies of the smoothness, complexity, finish, and balance of three different draft styles of Sam Adams products (including hardcore cider), all made in Boston.
