It’s a shame no king ever called the Palau de les Heures home, given that the view of the expansive gardens below is worthy of royalty. One of the city’s most majestic pre-Civil War structures, the Palau, nestled in the Collserola foothills, is now reserved for University of Barcelona students, though the gardens are free and open to the public. Named for the ivy (heura) that covers their entrance gates, the gardens are partially shaded by towering palm trees, while acacias, cedars, oaks, and cypresses rise above a diverse array of well-manicured shrubs. Hint: Take the complimentary shuttle bus around the university grounds to the end of the line and save yourself an uphill hike.
