On a bustling Saturday night, horse-drawn carriages line up outside the Driskill Hotel, one of downtown Austin’s oldest buildings, much like they must have in the 1880s. These days, the horses will whisk you away for a romantic tour of downtown. Choose from a list of tours — which can be as brief as 30 minutes, or as long as two hours — or customize your own journey. Three different companies operate the carriages (which seat up to six), each with its own routes. Confidential tip: Check in before 10:30 p.m., when 6th St. is closed to all but pedestrians and police.
6th St., between Berazos and Congress Ave.
