Revered by locals and blessed by Diana Kennedy, the Julia Child of South-of-the-Border cuisine, Fonda San Miguel has long been considered one of the country’s finest upscale Mexican restaurants. Begun by a chef who wanted to cook his grandmother’s recipes, Miguel Ravago and partner Tom Gilliland brought the real flavors of Mexico to this city. Gone are the rainbow sherbet endings to a meal or the enchiladas filled with ground beef; instead, we find ceviche in the style of Acapulco, Ancho rellenos filled with chicken and olives, and enchilada mole in the traditional way. Although a splurge, Sunday’s jaw-dropping spread is the way to go for the serious brunch bunch.
